The Director Identification Number (DIN) is a unique 8-digit identification number allotted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to individuals who are or intend to become directors of companies registered in India.

How to Apply for DIN
Since the introduction of SPICe+, DIN is allotted during company incorporation itself. For existing persons who need DIN:
- File Form DIR-3 with required documents
- Documents: PAN, Address Proof, Photograph, Mobile & Email
- Digital Signature of existing director/professional
- DIN allotted within 3-4 working days
DIN Status Types
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Approved | Active DIN, can be used for directorships |
| Deactivated | KYC not filed, needs reactivation |
| Disqualified | Person disqualified under Section 164 |
| Surrendered | DIN voluntarily surrendered |
DIR-3 KYC
Every DIN holder must file DIR-3 KYC annually by September 30th. Failure results in Rs. 5,000 late fee and DIN deactivation.
